I heard a lot about Boxers at an early age from my family, a Uncle had returned from Germany with a big brindle male who had been a mascot whiles he was in the army (1959). When I was 11 or 12 I made friends with a local Boxer, and we were seldom parted. She grew on my family too, and so for Christmas 1970, I got my first Boxer. She was a red and white girl called Cherryburton High Fashion, by Champion Cherryburton Robin Hood, we had asked for a show bitch, and with hind site; although she was flashy she was no show dog, we loved her just the same. I went to local ring craft classes, and I had my first taste of showing a Boxer with her, and she did win a little at some local Open shows.
I left home at 18 to start my nursing career, Suki continued living at home with Mum and Dad and, now, two younger brothers.
Suki died when she was ten years old from mammary cancer but the damage, for me, had been done. I needed a Boxer!!
As I was working I thought one was out of the question but then Skye came into my life. She was a Skye terrier and I loved her to bits.
She was a big dog in a small body, and I had her until she was eleven years old
Around 1973 Suki  was mated back to Jane Thornley's Champion Cherryburton Tiger Pete, she had seven puppies, this was my first experience of breeding, and the seeds had been sown......
In 1993, a series of disasters struck us, my Husband Shane, who was a Psychiatric Nurse, was assaulted whilst at work with devastating effect. Within six weeks of Shane’s injury I had a serious riding accident. Our injuries required our premature retirement from nursing. During this time we lost Inky and I was devastated. My mum suggested we get a Boxer immediately, and gave us the money to buy one. We telephoned the reference library for a list of breeders, the first one I phoned was not in, so I went to the last one on the list and found myself speaking to Annabel Zammit (Santonoaks). She had two puppies a brindle dog and a plain red bitch. We bought the bitch, Jasmine (Sindy Lou at Shakatan), and she was the start of Shakatan Boxers as we are today.
We registered our affix in August 1994, and all our Boxers go back to Jasmine
As I recovered from my accident and subsequent bouts of surgery, I went to college and did a BTEC in animal care. It was a full time two year course involving kennel management, canine law, animal husbandry including canine health, animal science, animal behaviournutrition and basic genetics, I passed with 20 distinctions and won
the student of the year award. I then followed this up by doing another years course in canine genetics and dog breeding.
As well as enjoying the show scene, I have a keen  interest inpuppy rearing, including behaviour and development.
I was on the committee of one of our local canine societies until it
was disbanded in the nineties, as well as the South Yorkshire and North Notts branch of the Northern Boxer club.
I am now serving on the committee of the Northern Boxer Club, I also enjoy judging the breed at open shows having judged in the UK and Ireland, I am currently on the Boxer Breed Councils B judging list.
We have a passion for the Boxer breed, and we are always happy to help and advise newcomers if and whenever we can.
Shane looks after the dogs, and rears the babies; I have returned to my Nursing career where I am now a theatre Sister  and am now working on my degree, I have recently qualified as an ' advanced practitioner' in my field. I also train the dogs, and handle them at the shows.
We are a small kennel, in name only, all our dogs live in the home as members of the family, as you will see from the various photographs on our site
As our dogs are predominantly pets we feel it is important that they are healthy, and well socialised - therefore WE  BREED FOR HEALTH TEMPERAMENT AND TYPE, and always have done, we do not use a stud dog merely because he is a champion, much thought and forward planning goes into each litter we breed, though our litters are infrequent.
We heart test all our breeding stock and only breed from clear healthy adults. We are qualified to microchip, and all our adults and puppies are micro chipped, as are any puppies bred by us.
We have bred several generations of  Crufts qualifiers, and Kennel Club stud book qualifiers, we are proud that by following a careful breeding programme, all our Boxers can be traced back to Jasmine our foundation bitch.
